Speaking as one from New Mexico who speaks Spanish, get your facts straight Lexicographer. The original name of the city was “Alburquerque,” named after the Duke of Alburquerque (awl-boor-’kehr-keh). However, that name was rather difficult for Anglos, so they changed it to the now well-known “Albuquerque.”
