    This is not English, but Spanish. Website fail.

    Speaking as one from New Mexico who speaks Spanish, get your facts straight Lexicographer. The original name of the city was “Alburquerque,” named after the Duke of Alburquerque (awl-boor-’kehr-keh). However, that name was rather difficult for Anglos, so they changed it to the now well-known “Albuquerque.”

    This sign is wrong no matter how you interpret the word.
