Clerrrrance time already?
What disturbs me is that they already spelled “Clearance” properly twice on the sign.
You just can’t hire decent clearks anymore …
Roger, Roger. We have clearance, Clarence. What’s our vector, Victor?
The sign stock comes in with that header already on it, anything below is typed up by an employee. You don’t have to be literate to work at good ol’ Meijer.
For over three years, I was a Sales Associate for a big chain discount retailer (NOT WAL-MART), and I always called Clearance Season “Clarence.”
“Oh, Clarence is coming/here/leaving.”
“That item is on Clarence.”
“Can you take this back to Clarence?”
Thankfully, we did not have a Clarence working in the store, so this never became much of a problem.
Now, as for “CLERANCE;” well, that spells neither a proper name NOR a word. It’s not even “CLEAR;” and clearing out is the main point of a CLEARANCE.
Has anyone else worked in a store where some customers asked, every time you had a Clearance (Clarence/Clerence) Sale, if you were going out of business?
