   The band We Are Scientists is fairly well known in the UK, maybe they’re not as popular (relatively speaking) in the US?

   No, because then the shirt would’ve said “We Are Scientists” or “I is scientist.”

   This is an intentional grammar error as part of the marketing of the band. They sell loads of these t-shirts.
