Poll #2 Follow-Up Post

July 22nd, 2008

Poll #2 asked the question of whether or not Engrish should be included on this blog. Its been a couple of days and here are the results thus far: Over 350 of you are in favor of having Engrish on this blog whereas just over 50 of you are in favor of not having Engrish on this blog.

I’ve read through all the comments and there’s quite a bit of mixed views. Those in favor of not having Engrish on this blog raise points such as it’s not as funny to see mistakes from people who aren’t native English speakers, or “I like seeing everyday errors that we see across the US.” Those in favor of Engrish raise points such as it’s “hilarious” or because of its “unparalleled WTF Factor.”

One reader pointed out the fact that “there’s no reason to get all militant about it.”  Basically I interpret this as there’s no reason to set perfect boundaries on what should or should not be included on this blog but rather that it should be flexible. I totally agree with that.

So in conclusion, keep sending in Engrish pictures. The rationale for this is because Engrish is quite obvious when you see it, so most of you will be able to discern the difference between a “native fail” and Engrish anyway. This way it will satisfy both parties. However, I will try to keep most of the fails on this blog true English fails, and post Engrish only if they’re really funny or a “must see” type of thing.

Once again, there’s not going to be any strict boundary on what should be posted or shouldn’t be posted or what should be submitted or shouldn’t be submitted. If it’s a failure of the English language, it most likely will be posted.

    Cool. Sounds like a plan!

Oh, here’s the Fail Crown that you get for scouring EnglishFail for hi-larious irony.

Wear it around and tell all your friends how great you are. Sorry it’s penis-shaped…factory error. These things happen.

    Thank you.

Frankly, I do not see the point in banning Engrish altogether, since some of them (like the one called “Epic store sign fail” IIRC) are MUCH MUCH funnier than some of the “proper” English fails. So I think you made the right choice.

I am not sure whether you have already had comments like mine, but I think you should consider that some English Fails ocurring within the US are done so by foreigners; therefore, I see no clear distinction as to where the error should come from.
    I enjoy all the posts.
Very much appreciation give you. ; )

That sounds like a very fail solution. Whoops, I mean fair.
