No, not in any textbook I’ve ever seen. But the definition of “accepted” is up for debate.
The rest of the world laughs at Americanisms like “nite”, “donut”, “definately”, and “irregardless”, too. Much of the American general public would accept those as actual words (even my spell checker accepted “irregardless”). That doesn’t mean they’re correct.
When you’ve got certain people suggesting that teachers stop grading spelling on tests and accept crap like “i wuz waiting for teh bus”, of course the English language is going to go downhill. People who use incorrect spellings like “kidnaped” are merely the ones standing behind the language at the top of the hill, waiting to give it the first shove.
I think this guy deserves credit just for creativity. And even though ‘kidnaped’ is an acceptable spelling according to the dictionary, I prefer it spelled ‘kidnapped’. So there.
I’ve never seen a homeless person in Chicago use this yet, and it seems one hits me up for money every time I’m there. I’d give him money just for creativity.
Kidnaped isn’t spelled wrong. Either spelling is correct. I don’t really understand why, as ‘kidnaped’ has always looked and felt wrong to me, but it’s not incorrect.
When I learned spelling rules, I learned that for a two-syllable verb with a single consonant on the end, when the emphasis is on the first syllable, one does not double the consonant when creating the past tense. Hence “worshiped” as well. This rule is not nearly universally followed, which is why I’ve given up on it. However, not only is “kidnaped” accepted, it is correct according to at least one set of “rules”. In any case, English is a silly language to which it is very difficult to apply any sort of structure, especially since it’s so widely dispersed and it changes constantly.
Yes, we should reform and adopt a central English authority. Since there would likely be drastic changes to it, we should also rename it to Newspeak! I think something along those lines was proposed back in 1984.
how good can $4 karate lessons be?
it says need money for Karate lessons, not need $4 for karate lessons lol
lol
I would totally give that guy money. Buy he needs pirate lessons to beat a ninja.
But*
Not a fail. The abbreviation is obvious ($ = money, 4 = for). Kidnaped is an accepted spelling.
In the U.S. it’s an acceptable spelling. The rest of the world is laughing at you, though.
please know that that MarkP guy does not represent the U.S. in any way, especially not the educated U.S.
“Kidnaped” is most definitely NOT an accepted spelling in the US.

I find that fail in that he needs $4 Karate lessons. I think $24 karate lessons would be more effective
oh please.
I’ll give him a $4 karate lesson.
