Fail In Hawaii
Thanks to Bethany who says, “This is from a major tourist attraction on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. I shudder to think of the thousands of people that read this sign every day.”

Not being a native English speaker, I often have to double-check stuff on this blog to figure what’s up. Let me get back to you on this one some time next week.
I don’t get it.
Less that, instead of less than. Took me a while to find it.
I’d say this is more of a Typo Fail than an English Fail.
I have seen this sign, but totally did not notice the typo. But that was before I was aware of this blog. Nice catch.
Yeah, that does seem like more of a typo to me. However, I would have said “inches of rain per year,” not “a year.” That may just be a taste thing, though.
“I shudder to think of the thousands of people that read this sign every day.”
Hyperbole. Let’s keep a little perspective here. Are we going to play Chicken Little over every small grammatical error?
I didn’t even see the typo until I read the comments. The human brain is an amazing thing; it will fill in the correct spelling whether we realize it or not. Taht’s why we can raed wrods spleld lkie tihs and udnstrenad tehm.
The thousands of people who read the sign every day probably didn’t even notice.
I don’t get it, why post this lame typo when my submission for fish camp fail has been ignored? see http://flickr.com/photos/baribob/2640403036/
Hey! Lone Cabbage in Cocoa - that’s where I’m from.
Not that I’m, um.. especially proud of being from a place where people can’t spell worth a damn. :/
I thought the fail was because after it says the crater is “hot, dry and brown”, it says at the bottom, “Winter storms can make the crater temporarily green.”
Yeah, a simple typo is not really a fail.
Why is “Winter storms can make the crater temporarily green” a fail? It becomes green because of the extra moisture…
Nice catch. You could also try submitting it to The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks
OMG — there’s an OXFORD COMMA too!!
i think it’s more of a fail b/c it’s a major tourist attraction. it’s like if you read a typo like this at the Museum of Modern Art in New York or something. you just don’t expect a place of that caliber to have spelling mistakes, no matter how small.
Actually, the fail I spotted was in the grammar department. You can count inches, therefore, the word “fewer” should be used, not “less”.
