But then they would logically also have to put quotation marks around “purchesed”.
I guess since this cabbage is a lone cabbage, it must never have had a teacher from which it could learn spelling, so the fact that this sign only has two words spelled incorrectly, one set of unnecessary quotation marks, and the confusing use of an ellipsis at the end, is actually quite impressive.
Why do people use quotes in such random places? I know that often they’re misused with the intention of adding emphasis (because, I don’t know, italics and underlining and bolding are all so yesterday), but in this case it doesn’t even seem to mean that. But at least the sign painter had a nice steady hand.
One possible reason that there are quotes around “premisses” is that the Lone Cabbage Camp is a place where you can go for an air boat ride. I believe that they are trying to include the boats as part of the actual property the camp sits on.
Lone Cabbage Fish Camp is located in City of Cocoa, Brevard County, FL. Its a nice place to eat, ride air boats and just be a good ol’ boy. I do believe this was used in a completely intentional manner.
Maybe they used quotation marks because they were quoting some other misspelled sign. Maybe? No?
Wishful thinking on my part.

Drat! I wanna shop at a place called the Lone Cabbage! When will the chain come to Pittsburgh?
What are “premisses”? Little girls before they become actual “misses”?
I think it refers to those moments in time when an English player is lining up to shoot a critical penalty into a German goal.

I wonder if the Lone Cabbage is the name of the Cabbage Patch Kids orphanage.

Quotation marks are the new italics, apparently.
