I saw one that misspelled “Maverick” as “Mavrick.” Was this intentional? I really wonder… Why intentional? Gives the RNC buzz… like here!

Certainly not the name of my country! Definitely not on a sign that I painted for a convention that I was passionate about. Nope, this guy is a dunce, case closed.

  23. L
    September 5th, 2008 at 12:36 | #23

Sure, I’ve misspelled words. But not on a sign. Painting a sign takes a few minutes, and if you’re staring at “Ameirca” for a few minutes and you don’t notice that something’s wrong…

I’ve never spelled my country’s name wrong. But, to be fair, it only has six letters (instead of seven). That makes a lot easier. Candaa. I mean… Cadnaa. I mean… Cndaaa. Oh, to hell with it. I live up nroth.

  24. September 5th, 2008 at 12:40 | #24

That is freakin’ brilliant. I love it. I’m going to go make a t-shirt out of it.

  25. L
    September 5th, 2008 at 12:41 | #25

I’m sure it was on purpose. At least the Mavrick sign was, so I’m sure this one was probably too. The Mavrick sign came up right when they were talking about adult literacy.

Unless things have changed in the last 20 years, those signs are painted by teenagers/students in some staging area and then brought to the floor and passed through the crowd. Both sides do it that way. This guy was unfortunate enough to have gotten one painted by someone from the short bus, however.

According to the NPR coverage, all the ‘hand-made’ signs were made up by the RNC and passed out to people. I didn’t hear anything about it during the DNC, so I’m not sure if that’s just standard practice these days or what.

It’s a bit pathetic to be certain..

“those signs are painted by teenagers/students in some staging area and then brought to the floor and passed through the crowd”
So Mike, if you were given this sign you would you hold it up for the world to see or throw is back and not have a sign. No sign is much better than looking like you are an idiot.

  38. john Riley
    September 5th, 2008 at 17:23 | #38

What is even worse is that they guy is not at fault! The “hand-made” signs were handed out by operatives at the convention, just like the printed ones. I read a report where the reporter commented on seeing them handed out. I guess it was supposed to look more grass-roots or something.

    September 7th, 2008 at 00:14 | #50

Yes, misspelling a word does seem to be more important than embracing a party whose core philosophy is socialism. A party full of ‘useful idiots’ who in the 80’s were apologists for the USSR and seemed to hate Reagan more than the Soviets. A party whose members criticize a sitting President while on foreign soil and are quick to call United States Marines murderers and quick to capitalize on any misfortune we suffer in war. I guess if it were up to you useful idiots, the correct spelling for our country would be ‘AmeriKa’.

Vincent, check these facts out: Thomas Jefferson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy… All democrats.

Plenty more out there who love this country too. I am not a Marine, I am Army; MOS 11A. Soon to be deployed to Iraq. I grew up in the 80s, I loved Rambo, GI Joe and that movie: Red Dawn. I believe in the constitution, I believe in freedom, I believe in the USA. I am NOT a republican.

So, I am basically saying that I will do whatever it takes to make sure that we stay free. I chose to back up my words with action. You sir, worry me. In my humble opinion, I believe that accusing all members of a major American political party of collaborating with a perceived enemy is ignorant at best, borderline Fascist.

Do not make sweeping generalizations about a group of people. Do not demonize a perfectly legitimate US political party. I urge you to respect our freedoms, political system and the diverse viewpoints of the citizens of this country. After all, these are the things that make USA something worth fighting for.

What if I were to tell you that I vote for democrats all the time? Would that alter your perceptions? Would it force you to expand your narrow definition of the people in the democratic party? I would hope so, but I sincerely doubt it. I assume you would call me an ignorant fool, misguided for voting for these pinko commie lovers.

Whatever retort you may have for me. My response will be this:
I took an oath that I will uphold with my life. If needs be I will take part in aggressive, extreme violence to defend the constitution of the United States. I may kill fellow human beings, I may see my friends die horrible deaths, I may become maimed and disabled. If I have to, I will make the ultimate sacrifice for this country. None of these things I wish to do, but I will because I know there are close to 300,000,000 people who need me to do this. Some of them do not agree with my political views, and others do.

What have you done for your country?
