I was taught in high school that as an adjective, “farther” is for actual distances whereas “further” is for conceptual things…as in “I’m going to look into that further”. If it’s about distance – farther. If it’s really about *depth* – further.
I’m going to trust Strunk & White over an internet dictionary. I say title fail.
I should hope the road is close–it makes it easier to use the road.
That said, farther is distance, further is greater degree or a non-distance quantity. Grammar fail.
According to dictionary.com, “further” can be used to refer to distance as well.

Maybe “Road Close” is the name of the party going on behind the sign?
Well, in theory the road is really close to the sign.
But yeah, I know what they meant to say.
If that’s a clown I see, the road can’t be far ENOUGH away.
AMEN to that!
Could be tense fail I suppose. Closed/close/closing/etc.
you have to get up pretty early in the morning to slip something past discopanda.
If the road is closed, why is everybody walking all over it? It’s like they’re making fun of the silly man who made the sign.
Come one, who among us has not fucked up a big sign by running out of room?
Man… I wish more roads had signs on them that would alert me when I came near them… I miss a turn atleast once a week.
