Submitted by Mike who says, “This sign has been hanging on a building on a busy street in my town for YEARS!  I thought for sure they’d take it down when they noticed the blatant error, but it’s still there…”

    What is the fail, then?

    • Yeah on December 26th, 2008 at 7:21 am

I think it’s the comma missing after using “donuts” as a term of address. :P

The only fail I see is that “We” should be “We’re”.

        • Yeah on December 27th, 2008 at 7:42 am

And that would be everyone else experiencing a not-getting-the-joke fail.

      • Metalnoir on December 26th, 2008 at 8:49 am

“We now serving espresso” would be better stated as “Now serving espresso” or “We are now serving espresso”. That is the fail.

I’m totally not getting it. Yes, it is not grammatically perfect, but that doesn’t make it funny (as it tends to happen in most ‘fails’ on this website).

My edit would be “We now serve espresso.”

Impressive that they didn’t make the common error of spelling it “expresso.” I guess doughnaughts was too long.

    • Carlos Mal on December 28th, 2008 at 5:13 am

Expresso is an accepted alternate spelling.

      • pannonica on December 30th, 2008 at 12:43 am

So it is, at least in the Random House Unabridged (2006). If the bar keeps getting lowered like this, there will soon be no English Fail Blog.

p.s. The only “expresso” that I recognize is the marker pen marketed by Sanford.

          Coding Fail, dammit.

      • laura on January 31st, 2009 at 4:36 pm

no, it isn’t. it’s espresso. people who say expresso are dumb.

        • laura on January 31st, 2009 at 4:49 pm

you can say that it’s an accepted alternate spelling, but next we’ll have expecially and excape on that same list, followed by realators and jewlary, and soon enough everyone will sound stupid all the time. please don’t support these wacky alternate spellings.

    Doughnuts… not donuts. Silly Americans.

Nice Engrish, though. Or is that caveman English?

  4. kiff on December 26th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

have a feeling the poster thought it is supposed to actually be expresso. you fail, blog! although “we now serving” is incorrect, the title leads me to believe that was not the perceived fail.

  5. sarcastress on December 26th, 2008 at 6:32 pm

I’m not sure why people don’t think “we now serving” is enough of an error. If they had the sign professionally printed and have left it up on their building that way for years, then yes, that is a fail. Totally unacceptable, Subway.

Really?! “we now serving” is not obvious enough?

  7. dim on December 27th, 2008 at 3:40 am

    Mmm, I wanting some espresso.

Which of those donuts have six grams of fat or less?

They should send Jared on over to give this enterprising franchisee a corporate beatdown.
