IMO, 80′s is wrong, but it’s one of those wrong things that is widely accepted.

I do however love the idea of the barstaff pirouetting to the sounds of Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Whitney Houston

    • davidget on August 28th, 2009 at 11:39 am

      Widely accepted?

  2. Kilgore Trout on August 28th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

I would say “See your bartender for a ballet” is a bit interesting. The dude is supplying dance lessons?

    • yourstupid on July 29th, 2011 at 11:17 am

Ballet is also like a broucher type thing for whats going on idiot

  3. Doug on August 28th, 2009 at 1:51 pm

Maybe a “ballet” is a drink?

    P.S. “widely abused”

  4. Heather on August 28th, 2009 at 6:38 pm

They meant a paper “BALLOT” –to use to vote for the worst songs. But someone wrote “ballet”.

  5. Udoli on August 28th, 2009 at 7:08 pm

    80s without the apostrophe

  6. Heather on August 28th, 2009 at 8:01 pm

    80′s with apostrophe is correct.

    • Anonymous on August 29th, 2009 at 9:16 am

80′s with apostrophe is most certainly incorrect.

      • signwave on August 31st, 2009 at 8:48 am

Both are correct. Look it up.

        • Rob-L on August 31st, 2009 at 9:16 am

According to AP Style Guide, 80′s is wrong.

          • signwave on September 1st, 2009 at 8:54 am

Ahhhhh…if only the AP guide was the only guide. The apostrophe after acronyms, years, etc. was – not too long ago – the accepted practice. Now we’re starting to see style guides without this apostrophe. Times change and rules change, but those rules are not as cut-and-dry as we’d all like them to be.

          • Goo on September 6th, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Because the s in 80′s is hypertext, the apostrophe is appropriate. Kudos to signwave!

    ’80s

    • Mike GC on September 13th, 2009 at 2:30 am

      Thank you!

  8. Shawn on August 29th, 2009 at 2:06 pm

I believe you can ask for a Spandeau Ballet. True!

    • Edsel on August 29th, 2009 at 11:42 pm

lol.. Now THAT just ties the theme to the bartender perfectly, doesn’t it?

  9. Aurélien on August 29th, 2009 at 7:09 pm

Well, it starts at 8pm, there’s 5min open bar every hour, and it closes at 9pm. I don’t know if it’s a mistake, but it’s quite clever. Of them.

  10. 123 on August 31st, 2009 at 6:57 am

it doesnt close at 9pm – read again 9 to close
Where the date is show yeh it does show as 8pm but that doesnt mean its 8-9

  11. Metalnoir on August 31st, 2009 at 10:11 am

The 1980′s were a decade of FAIL in ways too numerous to list. Music and style only scratch the horrid surface of that decade. A bartender performing (or trying to perform) a ballet could only improve the situation.

    • sitboaf on August 31st, 2009 at 11:14 am

Wasn’t Tom Cruise trying to do that in Cocktail? And that was a fail, too.

  12. Pif on September 2nd, 2009 at 4:46 am

The fail is that all the songs released in the 80s were equally and completely radical, there can be no “worst” songs of the 80s.

  13. Phyllis on September 2nd, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Definitely “ballot” phonetically spelled “ballet” is the FAIL here.

  14. canEHdian on September 16th, 2009 at 3:42 pm

The ballet with said bartender, is that between 9 and close, or at 9pm? Maybe its very graceful, using a score of 100% Eighties music….

    • hello! on September 25th, 2009 at 10:52 pm

Absolut is a vodka. Hello! Also, it’s not absoulte. Thank you.

  16. jishmo on November 9th, 2009 at 7:04 pm

the fail is they spelled absolute wrong, they forgot the e

  17. Duh, moron on November 9th, 2009 at 10:21 pm

Jishmo and Anonymous, Absolut, is a brand of vodka.. turn on the TV once in a while lol. Also, with regard to the 80′s debate, i believe it depends on how it’s used. for instance “80′s” could, if used properly, be considered a possessive noun. I.E. The 80′s music was interesting. Although its awkward, its not technically incorrect. Having said that, it IS used incorrectly here. i think the debate should be about how its used, not whether you can have an apostrophe at all.

  18. Anonymous on November 12th, 2009 at 1:33 pm

80′s and 80s are both correct. The thing about choosing to use an apostrophe is just to be consistent.

  19. hehe on November 13th, 2009 at 7:05 pm

oh some people are retards… i checked the comments just to see how many people would go “ohhh absolut is spelt wrong” *giggles* i’m obviously in the alcoholic gang!

    @hehe

  22. Iguess on November 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm

    It’s not open 8pm – 9pm

The event starts at 8pm. The bar is open 5 minutes every hour from 9pm until whenever it is that they close. 9pm to close, get it?

  23. Jaty on November 18th, 2009 at 9:55 am

Absolut is the name of a drink, that’s how it’s spelled.

    I support this man.

I personally prefer using 80s. I’m personally excited to do my ballet with the bartender. Will we be using 80s songs? I’d also change 5pm to close to 5pm until closing, but that is just personal preference. However, I am shocked that no one else pointed out the lack of a comma between Thursday and September. It should read “Thursday, September 10 at 8pm” instead of “Thursday September 10. 8pm.

I missed the end quotations. Dang my lack of attention span to check over my comments.
