The 1980’s were a decade of FAIL in ways too numerous to list. Music and style only scratch the horrid surface of that decade. A bartender performing (or trying to perform) a ballet could only improve the situation.
Ahhhhh…if only the AP guide was the only guide. The apostrophe after acronyms, years, etc. was - not too long ago - the accepted practice. Now we’re starting to see style guides without this apostrophe. Times change and rules change, but those rules are not as cut-and-dry as we’d all like them to be.
Jishmo and Anonymous, Absolut, is a brand of vodka.. turn on the TV once in a while lol. Also, with regard to the 80’s debate, i believe it depends on how it’s used. for instance “80’s” could, if used properly, be considered a possessive noun. I.E. The 80’s music was interesting. Although its awkward, its not technically incorrect. Having said that, it IS used incorrectly here. i think the debate should be about how its used, not whether you can have an apostrophe at all.
oh some people are retards… i checked the comments just to see how many people would go “ohhh absolut is spelt wrong” *giggles* i’m obviously in the alcoholic gang!
I personally prefer using 80s. I’m personally excited to do my ballet with the bartender. Will we be using 80s songs? I’d also change 5pm to close to 5pm until closing, but that is just personal preference. However, I am shocked that no one else pointed out the lack of a comma between Thursday and September. It should read “Thursday, September 10 at 8pm” instead of “Thursday September 10. 8pm.

I missed the end quotations. Dang my lack of attention span to check over my comments.
IMO, 80’s is wrong, but it’s one of those wrong things that is widely accepted.
I do however love the idea of the barstaff pirouetting to the sounds of Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Whitney Houston
Widely accepted?
I would say “See your bartender for a ballet” is a bit interesting. The dude is supplying dance lessons?
Maybe a “ballet” is a drink?
P.S. “widely abused”
They meant a paper “BALLOT” –to use to vote for the worst songs. But someone wrote “ballet”.
80s without the apostrophe
80’s with apostrophe is correct.
’80s
80’s with apostrophe is most certainly incorrect.
I believe you can ask for a Spandeau Ballet. True!
Well, it starts at 8pm, there’s 5min open bar every hour, and it closes at 9pm. I don’t know if it’s a mistake, but it’s quite clever. Of them.
lol.. Now THAT just ties the theme to the bartender perfectly, doesn’t it?
it doesnt close at 9pm - read again 9 to close
Where the date is show yeh it does show as 8pm but that doesnt mean its 8-9
Both are correct. Look it up.
According to AP Style Guide, 80’s is wrong.
The 1980’s were a decade of FAIL in ways too numerous to list. Music and style only scratch the horrid surface of that decade. A bartender performing (or trying to perform) a ballet could only improve the situation.
Wasn’t Tom Cruise trying to do that in Cocktail? And that was a fail, too.

The fail is that all the songs released in the 80s were equally and completely radical, there can be no “worst” songs of the 80s.
Definitely “ballot” phonetically spelled “ballet” is the FAIL here.
Because the s in 80’s is hypertext, the apostrophe is appropriate. Kudos to signwave!
Thank you!
The ballet with said bartender, is that between 9 and close, or at 9pm? Maybe its very graceful, using a score of 100% Eighties music….
absolute is spelled wrong hello!
its absoulte not absolut
(-:
Absolut drinks hello! =] Hit up the bars more. =O
Absolut is a vodka. Hello! Also, it’s not absoulte. Thank you.
the fail is they spelled absolute wrong, they forgot the e

80’s and 80s are both correct. The thing about choosing to use an apostrophe is just to be consistent.

@Anonymous
According to MLA it is 80s
@hehe
So did I
It’s not open 8pm - 9pm
The event starts at 8pm. The bar is open 5 minutes every hour from 9pm until whenever it is that they close. 9pm to close, get it?
Absolut is the name of a drink, that’s how it’s spelled.
@Anonymous
no it isn’t you dumb bitch

I support this man.
